Microsoft gets closer to Facebook

Late last night (for us brits) on the 16th May, Microsoft announced their ever-increasing ties with Facebook. Over the coming weeks search results from Bing will be influenced with the opinions from the social network. Articles such as film reviews, comments on news reports (and likes perhaps?) etc will provide what Microsoft calls “social signals” to adjust the search results rankings.
Is this just a further sign on the two companies working closely together against their common enemy, Google?
What I don’t like about this setup is that it creates biases in search where these services should be independent of such skews.. Where for example are the opinions of other social engines. Furthermore with easy hook-ins (like this to be entered in to a draw for something desirable) will allow the results to be gamed.
Bad idea Microsoft.!
